Hockmeyer Equipment Awarded 4th Patent on Immersion Milling!

HockmeyerHockmeyer Equipment was awarded its’ fourth US patent on continuing advances in immersion mill technology. This advance fits into a pattern of design improvements that build upon each other, adding performance enhancements to the fundamental concept that media milling is more efficiently done with the mill immersed in the product rather than the conventional method of pumping the product thru the mill. Hockmeyer has eliminated pumps, hoses, mechanical seals and very limited feedstock throughput. The machine amplifies recirculation milling to its’ zenith.

Patent number 7,175,118 covers the use of a rotating auger in the feed tube chamber of the mill. The close fitting, pitch matched auger effectively grabs and propels high viscosity feedstock thru the feed chamber down into the grind chamber and increases the flow thru a large separation device. This combination generates rapid recirculation into and out of the mill. The auger prevents media float, effectively containing the media within the grind chamber and keeps it from escaping thru the feed tube chamber.

As viscosities increase beyond the boundaries of conventional milling capabilities, a half-helix sweeper is incorporated to wipe the wall and bottom of the milling vessel. This serves to ensure uniform flow from the mill discharge area back into the feed tube chamber. Viscosities in the 500,000 plus centipoises range are routinely accommodated.
