DOUBLE PLANETARY MIXER
IMPROVED BATCH TIMES AND EASIER CLEANING FROM PLANETARY MIXERS BY
HOCKMEYER has developed a high performance Planetary Helix for our
Double Planetary Mixers. Unlike conventional helical tines, the Planetary Helix has
a variable pitch. Starting at the top of the helix, the pitch of the tine
decreases as it extends deeper into the batch. As a result, each tine
is longer and extends beyond the curvature created by tines more vertical with
a constant pitch. The length of each tine, along with its graduated pitch, allows
it to move more material both vertically and orbitally, thus improving mixing
and cycle time in the motion generated by its rotation. Running the helixes in
reverse (pumping upward and orbitally) allows for excellent deaeration and can
eliminate the need for vacuum on some products.
The second advantage to the HOCKMEYER Planetary Helix is that it is easy
to clean. The robust rectangular shape of each tine eliminates the need for
the bottom reinforcing connection on typical planetary blades. Because of
the width and path of each planetary helix, the entire bottom and batch level
wall of the mixing vessel is swept by the tines. Wipe-down with a scraper
is an uninterrupted sweep from top to bottom. All surfaces of the tine are
flat and easily accessible.
